CHARLA - FREE CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH CLASS
The Chelsea Public Schools Human Resources Department announced the creation of "Charla", a free conversational Spanish class available to non-Spanish speaking CPS employees throughout the 2022-23 school year. The classes offer an opportunity for staff members to learn Spanish in a fun and creative way. The instructors are native Spanish speakers, and are in-person throughout the school year. The classes will meet twice a week (Monday and Wednesday) from 3:30-4:30 at Chelsea High School.
The classes have reached maximum capacity for the 2022-23 school year. This page will be updated as soon as more classes become available for staff.

MONTHLY RAFFLE GIVEAWAY
Welcome to Chelsea Public Schools's monthly random raffle giveaway for all CPS employees. This is a fun moment to watch our CPS Wheel pick a random CPS employee each month. A special person has the opportunity to win once a month. The winner has 24-hours to claim a prize in the HR office or it goes to the 2nd or 3rd runner up. Stay tuned. Check your emails. MTEL Prep Workshops
Chelsea Public Schools is offering a comprehensive, 9-week support program to ensure you pass your MTEL exams. It will involve a combination of in-person workshops, interactive webinars, recorded webinars, office hours, study sessions, and self-paced, online courses. You can find out more about our courses, featuring targeted lessons, interactive exercises, full-length MTEL practice tests, detailed explanations, rich diagnostic data, unlimited access, and expert instructor support, by watching the short presentation.

STAFF REFERRAL PROGRAM
Chelsea Public Schools is committed to hiring high quality teachers that represent the students and community we serve. Research suggests that referral programs enable organizations to recruit high quality candidates with higher retention rates. A referral program for Chelsea Public Schools has the potential to be an excellent source of quality hires for our district.
Our referral program will focus on our hard-to-hire areas: Math (5-12), Science (5-12), ESL (all levels), Special Education (all levels), Caminos (bilingual Spanish) (all levels), and nurses (all levels). Full and part-time teachers and non-instructional staff, excluding administrators, who utilize their personal networks to refer a candidate for a high-need area who is subsequently hired and retained, will be eligible to receive a $500 bonus. For part-time employees, we will offer $150 for referrals for crossing guards. Each employee is eligible for up to 3 referral bonuses with this program.GUIDELINES FOR REFERRAL
For an individual to be eligible for a referral bonus, the following needs to occur:

Applicant lists the referring staff member on their initial application in the “Add a Referral” section when applying on TalentEd.

Upon being hired, the referred applicant must complete the staff referral form when completing their onboarding checklist.
Non-Qualifying Referrals:Examples include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

The referring employee refers an applicant who is already an active member of CPS (including themselves).

The referring employee does not follow protocols to submit a referral.

The referring employee is a member of the hiring committee.

Administrators (District Admins, Principals, APs, etc.) are not eligible for a referral bonus.
REFERRAL PAYMENT PROCESS
The district will pay the referral bonus in one installment after the first 90 days of the referred employees employment by the school, provided the referred employee has neither given nor received notice of discontinued employment.

TEACHER LOAN FORGIVENESS
Under the federal Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program, if you teach full-time for five complete and consecutive academic years in a low-income school or educational service agency, and meet other qualifications, you may be eligible for forgiveness of up to $17,500 on your Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans and your Subsidized and Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans.
