Hiring Process

STEP 1: Application
We begin posting positions for the upcoming school year in February and continue as additional openings arise. A cover letter, a current resume, references, transcripts for some positions, and a copy of your educator license are requested as part of your application.
STEP 2: Initial Interview
All initial hiring processes in Chelsea is school/department-based, and you will be contacted by the hiring administrator if you are selected for an interview. Interviews are typically conducted by a school-based hiring committee led by the hiring administrator and inclusive of teacher and parent representatives. If you live out of state, a virtual interview may be arranged through video or phone conference.
STEP 3: Semi-Finalists
For teaching positions, if you are selected as a semi-finalist for a teaching position, you may be invited back to teach a demo lesson. Other positions may include a performance task prior to the final interview step. Selected leadership positions may also involve a multi-step interview process.
STEP 4: Reference Checks
At the conclusion of the interview process, reference checks will be conducted and the successful candidate will be contacted by the hiring administrator to indicate a final interview recommendation to the Superintendent’s office. For other positions, the school or department level interview will conclude the interview process and reference checks will be conducted.
STEP 5: Final Interview & Preliminary Offer
For teaching, administrative, and other district level positions, a final interview will be conducted by the Superintendent or an Assistant Superintendent. A preliminary offer with salary information will be provided at the final interview.
STEP 6: Employment Documentation
Upon receiving a job offer, candidates must promptly produce official educational transcripts, proof of licensure/certification, and other required employment documentation.
STEP 7: Final Offer & Employee Onboarding
Final hiring recommendations are subject to approval through the Human Resources Department which extends formal job offers and facilitates new staff member on-boarding. HR will work with you and the hiring administrator to ensure a warm welcome and positive start in your new position. We are here to support you.
