Diabetes in School

Diabetes people under 21 has grown exponentially every year. The school nurse plays an essential role in assisting your child to manage their diabetes while in school and provide important interventions and education for students outside of school. Meeting with the school nurse is pertinent in the treatment as well as communication between the family and physician. It is imperative for the student to provide the necessary medication and tools available to the school nurse. Please provide the following:
- Doctor’s order
- Parent Consent available by the school nurse
- Method of delivery of insulin (syringes, pen, pump)
- Glucagon
- Glucose meter
- Alcohol wipes
- Ketone Test strips
- Control strips
- Glucose tabs
- Juice or other fast acting carbohydrate
- Snacks
- Carbohydrate count for each meal
- Lancets
- Blood glucose strips
- Extra batteries
