New Clark Avenue Middle School Design & Construction

  • The New Clark Avenue Middle School (CAMS) was built at 8 Clark Avenue, the site of the existing middle school. The previously existing school building was comprised of the original 1908 building with a 1926 addition. When construction began, CAMS occupied 580 students in grades 5-8.

The new school was designed for 670 students, grades 5-8. The construction took place in two phases that were completed while school was in operation and students and staff were on site. Phase 1, which included classrooms and the cafeteria, began in summer 2015 and continued for approximately eighteen months. Phase 2, which included the gymnasium, performance spaces, and specialty classrooms, began in January 2017 and continued until building occupancy in August 2019.  The new school includes 23 classrooms, specialty spaces, and a new gymnasium, cafeteria and library. Site work included the creation of a new entry plaza with outdoor educational spaces.
