It is with much excitement and humility that I begin my tenure as principal of Chelsea High School. Since my appointment, I have taken every opportunity to learn about CHS and the surrounding community from school staff, parents, and most importantly the students. Chelsea Public Schools’ motto a ‘Bridge to Success’ resonates with my practice and commitment as a twenty-four-year veteran educator with a relentless commitment to putting children at the center of our work in schools.
I followed a rather traditional path to school leadership by beginning my career in education as a math teacher for twelve years in middle and high school. Most recently for the last three school years, I was principal of a K-8 school in Somerville, Massachusetts. Prior to this time, I completed nine years of experience in school administration where I was an assistant principal in Florida and in North Carolina. At my core, I am still the math teacher at heart that now uses data to guide instruction and learning.
On a personal level, I am the son of immigrants from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. My parents sacrificed all they had to ensure my four siblings and I all attained higher education and always valued hard work. Family is an integral part of who I am and how I work. My wife and I have been married for thirty-one years. We are the proud parents of two amazing adults who both recently earned graduate school degrees.Assistant Superintendent Mike Lovato has generously offered his unconditional support to build on the established practices and successes to ensure we continue to reach our collective goals. My belief and commitment to continuing the legacy of success established at CHS is by learning from the teachers, staff, students, families, and community partners. Education is a partnership among and between the school and all stakeholders, and I am fully invested in building strong relationships with each person to make sure each student succeeds.
To build and foster strong relationships and to get to know you, please reach out to me so we can meet and I can learn about you. I am here to listen, learn, and collaboratively lead. Once again, I want to express my extreme honor and pride to be CHS’ principal and be part of this family. I am looking forward to working with each of you to continue supporting an amazing, nurturing, and welcoming school community.
