    Dear Chelsea Public Schools Community,

In light of the elections yesterday, which included ballot questions and candidates for local, state and federal offices, we want to take a moment to address our school community. At Chelsea Public Schools, we believe that our shared commitment to belonging, respect, empathy, and understanding remains our most important value. We believe that our diversity and inclusivity is our strength - - everyone belongs at Chelsea Public Schools.

As we continue to work together as a community of learners, we encourage all our community members to engage in respectful conversations, to listen actively, and to support one another. We are committed to maintaining safe and inclusive environments in our schools, where every individual feels they belong, are valued and respected.

Here are some guiding principles that can help us navigate this time together:

    1. Embrace Respectful Dialogue
Open conversations are essential.  As a school community, may we set an example by listening carefully to each other and valuing the experiences and perspectives that each person brings.
    2. Encourage Understanding and Empathy
For many students, this election may be the first they have followed closely, and they may have a range of emotions about it. Encourage students to ask questions and express themselves, and help them see different sides of the conversation by sharing insights into various perspectives in an unbiased way.
    3. Foster Unity within Diversity
In our diverse district, students, staff and families come from a variety of backgrounds, and they may hold different beliefs; emphasize that our strength as a school community lies in our diversity and that we remain united in our dedication to our students and their education.
    4. Stay Focused on Our Shared Mission
While current events may be on everyone’s mind, our core purpose remains unchanged: to support the academic, social, and emotional growth of our students. Together, we can reinforce this mission by helping students feel safe, welcome, informed, and supported.

In Chelsea Public Schools we will always welcome and educate all. We are committed to providing a safe learning environment where all individuals feel belonged at school and are treated with kindness and respect.

Thank you for your continued support as we navigate this together.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Almi G. Abeyta
