The J. Barry Dwyer Red Devil Turkey Trot has been permanently renamed in honor of the late J. Barry Dwyer, a beloved fixture of both the Chelsea community and the high school track and cross country programs. Dwyer led the boy's cross country program of the 1970s and 1980s to several Commonwealth Athletic Conference championships, earning the program recognition as one of the greatest dynasties in the history of Chelsea High School sports. Dwyer stayed active with local high school track and cross country long after his retirement, and is missed dearly by not only the Chelsea community, but by the entire Greater Boston League and beyond.About the Course
The course is a USATF-certified 5k with chip timing provided by Yankee Timing. The course is mostly flat with a mild hill on the way out and back. The start and finish is on the track at the Chelsea Memorial Stadium at Chelsea High School. Runners will start by heading south on Everett Avenue, and then turn right to head southwest on Spruce Street and continue onto Commandment's Way. Then the course will take a right onto the Admiral's Hill walking path and complete one loop around the park, taking a left back onto Commandment's Way and head back up Spruce Street and Everett Avenue to the stadium.Parking
Parking is available in the large parking lots behind Chelsea High School on Carter Street.
