The Class of 2023

  • The Class of 2023 includes 382 students. Their Post-Secondary Plans, as self-reported by students, include:

    • 53% approx. of students attending a 2 or 4 year college
    • 9% approx. of students attending Other Post-Secondary (Vocational/Technical Schools)
    • 0.5% approx. of students going to the Military
    • 33% approx. of students going to Employment
    • 4.5% approx. of students attending Other or Unknown

    The Class of 2023 was represented by 306 students from Chelsea High School, 43 from Chelsea Opportunity Academy, 21 from the Chelsea Virtual Learning Academy and 12 out-of-district graduates. Other details about our graduates include:

    • 179 students spent 12+ years in Chelsea Public Schools
    • 33 were enrolled in CPS for more than 9-11 years
    • 121 were enrolled for 4-8 years
    • 48 have been here less than 4 years
    • 103 Limited English Proficient Students and 58 Former Limited English Proficient

$5.5 Million Awarded in Scholarships

  • Our incredibly talented graduates were awarded over $5 million in scholarship awards and grant money. Awards and grants were distributed from the following groups:

    • Specific college grants and scholarships
    • Tuition assistance grants and other scholarships
    • Pell Grants
    • John & Abigail Adams Scholarship
    • Inversant Scholarship
    • Various community scholarships (the CHS Scholarship Committee oversees)
    • City of Chelsea Scholarship (for students planning to attend BHCC),
    • Chelsea Resident & Community Scholarship Fund

Valedictorian & Salutatorian

  • Valedictorian - Erica Mendoza

    CHS's valedictorian for the graduating class of 2023 is Erica Mendoza. Erica is a kind and determined academic star who has excelled at CHS, and will be greatly missed. She is a first generation student, who will be attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the honors program to become a Genetic Counselor. Throughout her time at Chelsea High School, she has maintained a rigorous course load full of honors, advanced placement and Bunker Hill Community College courses while achieving high honor roll and graduating with a weighted GPA of 4.80. Additionally, Erica has been a soccer player for four years and a member of NHS. Erica expresses deep gratitude for her family's support, and will be greatly missed as a member of the CHS community.

    Salutatorian - Karina Ramirez Villatoro

    CHS's Salutatorian for the graduating class of 2023 is Karina Ramirez Villatoro. While at CHS, Karina maintained High Honor Roll all four years of High School. She earned praise and respect from all her teachers, who all spoke highly of her and her work ethic. Karina was personally asked to mentor a class of freshmen participating in the AVID program, which she loved. Karina received the John and Abigail Adams scholarship for excelling at MCAS. She will use the scholarship this fall at UMASS Boston.
