From Principal Sean Sibson
Welcome to the Berkowitz Elementary School where "Together, We are better!" I was welcomed to Chelsea Public Schools in 2008 as an English Learner teacher at the Joseph A. Browne Middle School. I learned from great colleagues and students what it means to be an educator in Chelsea and felt great pride in being the first connection many students had to their new life in the United States. I attended the mentoring in action program and served as a mentor for numerous years as well. During my summers I taught at the Fessenden School in Newton as an ESL teacher for students from around the world. In 2014 I began my role as the CPS English Language Coordinator and annually coordinated services for over 2,000 English Learners from grades K-12. During my tenure as EL Coordinator I collaborated with all ten schools in Chelsea and have helped steer the District Leadership Team. I have an MA in Applied Linguistics and a CAGS in Educational Administration from UMASS Boston. I have lived in Chelsea for ten years, and these days can be seen chasing my one year old daughter Virginia around the city with my lovely wife, Britt. Our school’s mission, vision and values can be found here. As we work together toward our goals, I welcome your feedback. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me via email or phone. I believe that we, as educators and parents, have the awesome responsibility of working together as a community.
