Our Academic Approach

    • CAMS utilizes flexible grouping in all classrooms to support students in meeting their goals and engaging in higher order thinking.
    • We teach and support students in using social emotional learning strategies (SEL).
    • All students are engaged in goal setting and teachers provide feedback to students related to their goals and ongoing performance in all content areas. Students self-reflect on these goals on a regular basis.
    • Our special education programs include both a social communications program and fully inclusive
      classrooms.
    • Comprehensive support services for English Language Learners including more intensive support
for students who are newly arrived as well as students who are continuing to grow in their English
      language proficiency.

Art, Music, and Afterschool Programs

    • Every student at CAMS participates in enrichment classes including art, music, technology, physical education, health education, and Spanish.
    • In addition to our enrichment classes, students can participate in chorus, band, or strings through our after school programming. CAMS has multiple musical performances each year for students to showcase their musical skills.
    • After-school programs include academic opportunities in both math and literacy, and enrichment opportunities, such as intramural sports, National Junior Honor Society, Studio Art, Science Enrichment, Yearbook, and more.

New This Year

    • Every student this year will have a dedicated WIN Block 30 minutes/day. Students will use this time to work on academic and social-emotional skills.  Students will participate in a weekly circle.  The focus on the circle will be different every week but will help students build their SEL skills as well as become more culturally responsive.  On the other days of the week, our students will be working on the academic skills needed to be successful in all content areas.
    • This year we will continue our family relationship building during the summer as we continue with our sidewalk visits.  This year we will be focusing on our incoming 5th graders and students who were remote during the 2020 - 2021 school year.  In addition, we will be providing parents with an SEL survey that our CAMS SEL team will use to continue to support our students and families at home.
    • Uniforms: In order to make it easier on parents and students, we are now allowing black pants, shorts, and skirts as well as khaki. We are also allowing non-collared shirts to be worn as long as they are navy blue or white.
    • One of the areas of focus for educators at CAMS will be to provide instruction that is culturally responsive and focuses on elevating (or emphasizing) student choice and voice.
