Comprehensive insurance and benefits program for eligible employees
Welcome to the Chelsea Public Schools Employee Insurance Benefits Program. Generally, employees working a regular schedule of 20 or more hours per week are eligible for health insurance coverage. Temporary employees and those employed under service agreements are not eligible for benefits. Building and Long-Term Substitute teachers are eligible for health insurance.

Open Enrollment
Open Enrollment period will begin April 1, 2026 through April 15, 2026. This is your opportunity to enroll in the City’s benefits or to make changes to your existing plan. All changes made by employees during Open Enrollment will take effect July 1, 2026 and will be effective through June 30, 2027.
Once Open Enrollment ends, you must wait until next year's Open Enrollment or experience a qualifying event to make changes. Please keep in mind, if you have a qualifying event, you must notify the City's Human Resources Department and submit all required documentation within 30 days of the qualifying event date.
A qualifying event includes but is not limited to:
- Change in marital status
- Loss of dependent status
- Birth, adoption or legal guardianship
- Change in employment status that affects employee's benefits

Employees currently enrolled in the City of Chelsea's health insurance plans may be compensated for not participating in the City's health insurance programs. The employee's health insurance with the City must be uninterrupted coverage for a period of three to five (3-5) years.

Vision Insurance
Our health plan, Harvard, provides vision benefits for its members. EyeMed vision is available for those employees that would like a secondary vision plan or are not enrolled in our health plan.

Life Insurance
A basic $5,000.00 term insurance policy is available to all eligible employees at a cost of $2.95 per month. Additional, voluntary, term insurance (in increments of $10,000.00 up to a maximum of $100,000.00 depending upon age) is also available.
