At the BMS, we are all about support and growth. Teachers are expected and encouraged to set big goals, work with their colleagues, coaches and administrators towards them, and reflect on progress throughout the year.
Teachers are guaranteed eight observations by an evaluator prior to each summative evaluation. These supervisory observations are supplemented by frequent observations by coaches, mentors and peers to provide on-going feedback on focus areas.
We also have many opportunities for teacher leadership, including:
Additionally, the Chelsea Public Schools offer partial tuition reimbursement for graduate school classes taken to support educators’ career growth. Finally, the BMS and the Chelsea Public Schools offer many opportunities for teachers to advance their careers and take on the role of instructional coach, Dean of Students, guidance counselor, social worker, or administrator.
Interested candidates will first apply on Schoolspring.com by submitting:
Top candidates will then be asked to either submit a video of their teaching or come in-person for a demonstration lesson. After we have identified our preferred candidates, we will contact references and make a recommendation to hire to the Superintendent. The Superintendent, or designee, will conduct a interview and make all final hiring decisions.
Strong demonstration lessons include a clear objective that is brought to life in the lesson, an engaging hook, some demonstration or guided practice, an opportunity for students to engage in a learning task, and a check for understanding. Stepping into a classroom without prior relationships with students is always a challenge; we are looking for educators who have the skills to capture and engage students and build relationships even in the short time they have with them. As important as the demonstration lesson is a candidate’s ability to reflect on the strengths and areas for improvement in the lesson.
