Chelsea Public Schools - Bridge to Success
Chelsea Public Schools visits Costa Rica

As educators, we are committed to practicing what we preach. If we want our students to learn about the global economy and to compete in a global world, then we need to learn about the world too—and traveling is the best way to do that!

Our collaboration with Education First has resulted in a seven-year educator professional development international travel plan.

In addition to our travel montages, please also see the photo galleries from our educator tours!

2014 Educator Tour to Spain

The tour was 10 days leaving Friday, April 18 and returning Sunday, April 27, 2014. We began in Madrid, and traveled to Cordoba, Seville, Granada, Toledo, and Barcelona. We visited 3 schools in Seville and Madrid. School visits were a bit more difficult this trip due to the Christian Holy Days of Easter. Nonetheless, we will also experienced the broad history of this area of the world.

We'll have pictures up from our Spain trip when available.

2013 Educator Tour to Berlin, Prague, and Munich

Note: The 2013 EF/CPS education tour is to Germany and Czech Republic had to be postponed, but look for it to be rescheduled for 2016 or 2019.

Munich: Experience Munich, from the medieval to the modern. Learn from colleagues and counterparts during your visit to a Munich school. Your sightseeing tour will take you past the Olympic Stadium, BMW headquarters, the fashionable Schwabing district and the Residenz, former home of the Wittelsbach dukes of Bavaria. You will visit Dachau, a WWII Nazi concentration camp liberated by the Allies in 1945 that now serves as a memorial museum. A walking tour will take you through the heart of Munich, where medieval trade routes once intersected. In Marienplatz, see the neoGothic New City Hall with its famous Glockenspiel. Then continue past the famous Hofbräuhaus, once the royal brewery of the Kingdom of Bavaria.

Berlin: Poised at the cutting edge of European culture, this German capital has been transformed since the Berlin Wall fell in 1989. During your visit to a Berlin school, see how this transformation has affected the educational system. On your tour, visit the Checkpoint Charlie Museum, named after the checkpoint station that once guarded the border between East and West Germany. Your walking tour will take you past cafés, restaurants and embassies along Unter den Linden, Berlin’s most elegant boulevard. Continue to the imposing Reichstag building, the historical seat of Germany’s parliament, and head to the massive glass dome that overlooks the cityscape.

Prague: Encounter the legendary beauty of Prague on your tour of the former capital of the Holy Roman Empire. Located on the Vltava River, Prague gracefully balances the classical features of old Europe with a lively, Bohemian spirit. Pass the concert hall where Mozart conducted the premiere of Don Giovanni. Walk the quaint, cobbled streets of the Mala Strana and visit the 13th-century Stare Mesto (Old Town) and Market Square. Here you’ll see the famous 15thcentury astronomical clock. From St. Vitus Cathedral to the Baroque statues of the Charles Bridge, you’ll explore the celebrated art and architecture of the City of One Hundred Spires.

2012 Educator Tour to China

Chelsea educators visited China in April of 2012 on a 10-day tour. This professional development experience expanded our school district's knowledge of China and gave us an opportunity to share our ideas with Chinese educators, as well as to bring new pedagogical ideas and practices back to our classrooms here in the United States.

Please also see the photo galleries from our educator tours as these now include images from the China tour.

2011 Educator Tour to Costa Rica

Chelsea educators discovered Costa Rica's incredibly diverse ecology, something truly unique on our planet. They visited Tortuguero with its nesting ground of sea turtles, they visited Arenal with its beautiful lake, powerful waterfall, hot springs and a looming volcano, and they visited Guanacaste with its amazing collection of plants and animals against a backdrop of beaches and forested bluffs.

All of the images in this video (and more!) are available in the Costa Rica tour gallery.
