| The Choice Thru Education, Inc., Pregnant and
Parenting Teen Program was established in 1988 as an alternative
to pregnant and parenting teens dropping out of school. The
program offers a comprehensive education and requires the same
standards for graduation as exists at Chelsea High School. For
many graduation with a high school diploma results in the pursuit
of and entrance to post secondary education. Students at Choice
are offered a positive support system which enables and empowers
them to develop the necessary self respect and self esteem to
make the important decisions for a positive future. |

| PPT
Program |
The Choice Thru Education Pregnant
and Parenting Teen (PPT) Program is sensitive to the needs of
new mothers and designed to motivate them to maximize their
opportunities in the public school system. The PPT Program addresses
the issues which usually lead to an interruption in education
such as maternity leave and parenting a newborn baby. Here,
teen mothers are allowed to bring their babies to class with
them until the baby is walking at which time we will provide
help applying for daycare. The CHS/CTE Pregnant and Parenting
Teen Program provides and maintains a supportive and nurturing
environment, one in which teen mothers can set goals and learn
how to achieve them. |

| Referral
and Admissions Process |
Students must be Chelsea residents
and a custodial parent. For students already enrolled in the
Chelsea Public School System, the Director of Choice Thru Education
will coordinate with the Chelsea High School Principal regarding
placement of students of the School Department into the Program.
Potential students, who are not presently enrolled in the Chelsea
Public School system, must first complete the standard enrollment
procedure at the Parent Information Center, 100 Everett Avenue,
Chelsea, MA, 617/889-8490. The Parent Information Center will
then make appropriate referrals to the CHS/CTE Pregnant and
Parenting Teen Program. |
