Thematic Goal

Develop communication skills and establish a common instructional model, thereby strengthening Tier 1 instruction.

Theory of Action

If Berkowitz faculty and staff develop a common language through professional development, then trust, climate and collaboration will improve and high student achievement will be attained.

Strategic Objective (to achieve Thematic Goal)

Students will become expert learners through teacher incorporation of the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

Students will increase their higher order thinking skills through teacher consideration of text and task complexity.

Students will become more creative problem solvers as a result of an active inquiry approach.

Strategic Initiatives

  1. PLCs – Deepen Work of Professional Learning Communities. Strengthen communication skills through school-based professional development (PLTs, Faculty Meetings, and Early Release Day workshops) to enhance professional self awareness and group identity within teams and school.
  2. UbD - Use Understanding by Design (UbD) to set common goals and work toward them.
