February 2012 Scholarship News

Featuring scholarships from Chelsea Employees Federal Credit Union, Salem State Alumni Association, The Pirandello Lyceum of Greater Boston, and many more!

As always: for complete scholarship requirements, guidelines, and applications regarding these and other scholarship opportunities, please visit the scholarship file cabinet located in the guidance office unless otherwise directed. If after reviewing the information and you still require further personalized assistance, please speak directly with your Guidance Councilor.

SENIORS-Chelsea Employees Federal Credit Union is offering the 2012 James A. Gleason Scholarship Award in the amount of $500. In addition to completing the application, you must submit an essay and transcripts. In order to qualify for this award, a parent or guardian must be a member of the CEFCU. Along with the application, you must submit your transcripts and write a short essay. For an application and the essay question please visit the scholarship file cabinet located in the guidance office. Applications are available at the Chelsea Employees Federal Credit Union office, room 205, Chelsea City Hall or call 617-884-3599. Deadline for applications is March 12, 2012.

SENIORS-Salem State Alumni Association Scholarships are available to accepted undergraduate and graduate students who have relatives that are Salem State alumni. The Alumni Association will award four $1,600 scholarships each year and renewable annually for a maximum of four years. Along with the application, you must submit and essay of approximately 200 words and two letters of recommendation. The application eligibility requirements are available in the guidance office in the scholarship file cabinet. Application deadline is April 1, 2012.

SENIORS-The Pirandello Lyceum of Greater Boston is seeking qualified seniors to apply for scholarship. To be considered you should have a high academic average, high SAT scores, involved in extracurricular activities and have financial need. They are also interested in those students that have studied the Italian language, intend to study Italian in college, or wish to spend their junior year abroad in Italy. The application and qualifications are available on their Web site. Application deadline is April 1, 2012.

SENIORS-Adri's Legacy Acceptance Scholarship is offering a grant for up to an $800 deposit for those who need assistance in paying for their required acceptance deposit. To be eligible for this grant you must demonstrate financial need, reside in the greater Boston area, in addition to providing an essay. Scholarship guidelines and applications are available in the guidance office scholarship file cabinet. Application deadline is April 2, 2012.

SENIORS-The MRA Educational Foundation (MRAEF) Co-Branded Scholarships is offering $700,000 to 258 students in Massachusetts, who are enrolled in accredited restaurant/food related post secondary program. You must be a U.S. citizen and a Massachusetts resident, have a minimum GPA of 2.65. Have a minimum of 250 hours of paid or volunteer experience and a recent letter of recommendation fro a employer in the restaurant/foodservice industry. SENIORS-The Rebekah Assembly of Massachusetts of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows are offering a scholarship of $500. You must provide a state need, personal reference, two educational references, academic record, and a personal statement explaining your goals, financial status, members of your family, etc. Complete Scholarship guidelines and applications are available in the scholarship file cabinet in the guidance office. Application deadline is March 15, 2012.

SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS-The Massachusetts Office of Student Financial Assistance is pleased to announce the availability of applications and the acceptance of nominations for the 2012 Christian A. Herter Memorial Scholarship. You must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-resident, have a GPA of 2.5, and demonstrate difficult personal circumstances, high financial need, and strong academic promise to continue his or her education beyond high school. You must complete an essay to be considered for this award. Complete instructions and applications are available on their Web site. Application deadline is March 1, 2012.

SENIORS-The Metropolitan Area Planning Council is offering The Charles W. Eliot II Scholarship Award in the amount of at least $500. The award is available to any student who is planning to further their education in the areas of land use planning as it affects open space protection, land management, and other ecological issues. The guidance office scholarship file cabinet has a complete list of eligibility requirements & scholarship guidelines along with an application or you can contact Tom Hauenstein at MAPC or call him directly at (617) 451-2770, ext. 2072. SENIORS-The Massachusetts Broadcasters Association Student Broadcasters Scholarship Program is now accepting applications. This is a $2,000 scholarship opportunity. You must be a Massachusetts resident and plan on attending an accredited school with a major of studying over-the-air broadcasting. Scholarship guidelines and applications are available in the guidance office scholarship file cabinet. Application deadline is April 2, 2012.

SENIORS-The Chinese Historical Society of New England and the Boston Harborside Home of J.S. Waterman & Sons-Waring-Langone Funeral Home announced their annual Scholarship competition for 2012. Two scholarships will be awarded to seniors of Chinese ancestry entering a New England college in the fall. Each scholarship is $500/yr. Scholarship guidelines and applications are available in the guidance office scholarship file cabinet. Application deadline is April 2, 2012.
